  • Library Search Is the library catalogue for items available here at the LERC and at the Health Library. Through library search you have access to large selection of ebooks covering a wide range of topics both clinical and non clinical. Where a book has 'online access' indicated select the title of the book, then Select 'NHS users click here' to be directed to the log in page here use your OpenAthens username and password to log in.
  • MyiLibrary contains over 390 up-to-date e-Books covering General Medicine, Psychology, Nursing and Paediatrics. Use your OpenAthens username and password to log in.

Use your UHNM OpenAthens to browse the journals available online. To sign up for your OpenAthens click here

  • Use the A-Z of journals if there is a particular journal you are looking for. You will need to sign in with your OpenAthens.
  • If you are searching for articles on a particular topic then you can search using HDAS or Pubmed.

What is OpenAthens?
When you register for OpenAthens (NHSAthens) you get a username and password to access electronic resources subscribed to by NHS England and UHNM.

Who can Register?
All members of NHS staff can register and students on placement for support during their placement.

Where can I use my OpenAthens login?
You can access resources from anywhere, once registered you don’t have to use an NHSnet PC. For help to use any of the resources please contact the library to arrange training or phone to receive more information.

What will I have access to?
ejournals and ebooks 
Healthcare Databases (HDAS) for literature searching and setting up alerts
Point of care resources and online drug resources to support you in delivering the best possible patient care

Register for OpenAthens

  • If you are a UHNM employee, go to and fill out your details on the online form. In the organisation section type UHNM then wait for UHNM, Staffordshire to appear and select for Stoke users select UHNM, Stoke.
  • Use a trust NHS-based email account or an NHS-networked computer to be automatically verified for eligibility. You will face delays  or you may be refused if  your account is being activated using your personal email. If you are a student on placement please use your university email address.
  • An email will be sent with an activation link, click on the link to activate your account. If you have difficulty opening the link copy and paste the link into the browser.
  • You will be prompted to set up your password.
  • To access content using your OpenAthens, look for the login via OpenAthens link.

Trip pro - Search tool for finding high quality evidence, you have access to Trip pro using NHS networked PCs only.

BMJ Case reports - you can also request the UHNM fellowship code to submit a Case Report to BMJ for free, just get in touch.
